Pharmatrac System

The Pharmatrac System is being developed to offer sophisticated solutions to improve medication management for patients, caregivers and other stakeholders in the healthcare environment. The system operates on a robust data-analytics driven software infrastructure with multiple user-facing smart hardware devices designed to bridge gaps in the consumer-medication-practitioner chain.

Pharmatrac Medication Bowl Countertop Device

Pharmatrac+Countertop+Device.jpg

The Countertop Device concept was initially conceived following the completion of user studies conducted to understand how patients interact with long term and acute-use medications in the home. The studies found that users tend to pre-cluster medication, either in a cup, bowl, hand, or on a countertop or placemat, regardless of how the medications and supplements are stored and organized.

The Pharmatrac Countertop Device uses machine learning and AI to count and identify medications that are clustered in the device prior to consumption by the patient to track medication use for caregivers, practitioners and patients.  The ability to view/monitor when and what medications are taken provides unique insight into a previously unknown aspect of medication adherence: the behaviour of medication users inside their homes.

The Pharmatrac Countertop Device connects wirelessly by Bluetooth and wifi to track and record patient interactions with prescribed medications and supplements. The device consists of a detachable bowl with an integrated camera and sensors which assess use and monitor patient interaction.  The companion app is securely connected to the device and allows caregivers, practitioners and users to monitor medication protocol. App users can monitor medication use to the minute and access records of previous days to review how well the medication users have been adhering to their medication schedule.

The data collected through the Pharmatrac Countertop Device is analyzed by Relay Medical’s machine vision/machine learning algorithms which are used to generate insights into the medication user’s behaviour and habits including: instances where the medication was not taken as per the protocol and details of these anomalies, statistics such as adherence to protocol, trends for when the medication user takes the medication, etc.

As part of the Pharmatrac System, Relay Medical has developed the capability to automatically identify with a high probability when a medication user takes their medication.   A proof of principle prototype of the digital label with motion sensing ability was used to develop and test the ability to identify when a medication is taken from a pill bottle based on how the medication user handles the bottle.

The proof of principle prototype can be used with the Pharmatrac base station that will send the sensor data to the Pharmatrac cloud.  The cloud algorithms analyze the data and medication taking events are identified and communicated as required.

Application Programming Interface (API)

The Pharmatrac API allows 3rd party mobile apps, devices and services to connect to the Medication Management System, and query for data and insights generated by Relay Medical’s artificial intelligence (AI) driven algorithms. With this advancement the Company is now able to integrate its technologies with strategic partners for value added applications and the commercialization of Pharmatrac devices including the Countertop Medication Device.

The API authenticates user credentials to partners to securely access devices on their accounts.  With this access, providers can control the features of the device, upload data to the system, and receive data back about the medication habits of their users. Features of the device are configurable through the API, including reminder lights and sounds, medication-taking-event lights and sounds, the colours of the lights, and other functionality. User medication data can be uploaded, including medications prescribed and individual schedules. Data sent back through the API includes all medication captured by the system processed though Relay Medical’s AI algorithms, timestamps, videos, images, pill counts, and others. The API continues to be updated as development progresses.

Relay Medical is now ready for API integration testing with partners.
